What We Check During Turbocharger Replacement

Every vehicle and turbocharger system is different, but every turbo installation still requires supporting checks and inspection work to help reduce the risk of repeat failure and poor performance afterwards.

As part of the fitting process, we inspect the oil supply and return system, intake pipework, boost system, intercooler condition and related turbocharger control components. We also check for problems linked to actuator operation, contamination, oil restriction and DPF-related faults where applicable.

When carrying out turbocharger installation, we normally recommend servicing work at the same time, including fresh engine oil and filters, as contaminated oil systems are one of the most common causes of premature turbocharger failure. On certain Euro 6 applications, additional work such as wet belt replacement may also be advised where condition or contamination is a concern.

Any supporting servicing or repair work is discussed and quoted separately before work begins.

Certain brand new customer-supplied units may be considered depending on the application, although we generally recommend using our own supplied turbochargers wherever possible.

Should the oil feed pipe be replaced with a turbocharger?

Yes. Restricted or contaminated oil feed pipes are one of the most common causes of premature turbocharger failure. We strongly recommend replacing the oil feed pipe during turbocharger replacement, and it forms part of our warranty conditions.

Can a blocked DPF damage a turbocharger?

Yes. A blocked DPF can create excessive exhaust backpressure and heat, placing additional stress on the turbocharger and increasing the risk of premature failure over time.

Do turbochargers need calibration after fitting?

Our turbochargers are calibrated and checked off the engine before fitting, so additional calibration is not normally required when replacing the unit with the same specification turbocharger.

On upgraded or modified setups, additional ECU tuning or remapping may be needed to ensure the system operates correctly with the new specification.
